Biography:
Larry Burgee, Assistant Professor of
e-Business and Technology Management at Towson University, has been a full-time
faculty member since August 2003. He teaches
EBTM 311 Principles of e-Business,
EBUS 367 Internet Technology,
EBUS 469
Current Development in e-Business, and
MNGT 337 Information Technology and consistently earns outstanding teaching evaluations from students and
faculty (peer reviews). Larry has
played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of Towson
University's first Mobile Technology Classroom. Additionally, Larry is
a member of several University-level and College-level
technology-focused committees and task forces. In May 2006,
Larry taught in the Executive MBA program at the University of Lodz
Polish-American Management Center
in Lodz, Poland. In January 2008, he taught Principles of
e-Business at
Quality
Leadership University in Panama City, Panama. He will be teaching
there again in January 2009.
Larry Burgee has been associated with
Loyola
College in Maryland since 1989. He was a Visiting Professor in 2003 and
has been an Adjunct Professor since 1997. He has taught
GB 704 Information and Technology for
Management, GB 748 International Marketing,
GB 756 Database Design and Implementation,
GB 757 Business Support
Technologies, and GB 759 Lattanze Seminar Series in the MBA
Program, and BA 251 Management Information Systems, BA 382 International Business, and
BA 448 International Marketing in the
Undergraduate Program. He earned his M.B.A. at Loyola in 1993 and was
the International Business & Marketing Study
Tour Coordinator from 1993 to 1998. Larry coordinated, attended, and guided six
consecutive annual European Study Tours. He developed marketing
strategies, established relationships with high-level
European executives, and arranged for group visits to more than 75 companies in Belgium, Czech
Republic, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland.
From 1999 to 2002,
Larry was the Executive Director of
Lattanze
Center @ Loyola College, the Center for Executive Studies in
Information Technology. Larry was also Loyola's American Experience
Program Director. In 2001, he hosted a
ten-day educational and cultural visit to Baltimore for 20 Chilean
business executives from the Loyola MBA program in Santiago, Chile.
In 2005, Larry earned a Ph.D. in
Information Systems at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a
dissertation topic entitled The Effects of Screen Size, Information Organization, and Time on
User Comprehension of Text-Based Information Presented in a Web Browser. Larry has also conducted
considerable research examining human-computer interaction issues from
an international and cultural perspective as they relate to the global
e-Business environment. As a Part-time Instructor at UMBC, Larry taught Software and Hardware Concepts and Database
Program Development.
From 1988 to 1998, Larry was employed by the Baltimore Gas
& Electric Company. From 1995 to 1998,
he was an Information Technology Analyst and was responsible for Oracle Financials Technical Support. He performed extensive
project management work for the implementation of an enterprise resource
planning (ERP) system and became very knowledgeable in supply-chain
management technology. He was also responsible for
the Company's Business Information System Intranet web site and authored more than 200 web
pages. From 1992 to 1995, Larry was BGE's Disaster Recovery Coordinator, responsible for
the recovery activities of Information Systems, Telecommunications, Customer Service, and
Nuclear Support Services. From 1988 to 1992, Larry was a Systems Programmer and maintained
large-scale mainframe operating systems (IBM-MVS).
From 1985 to 1988, Larry was a VM and MVS Systems
Programmer for Allfirst Bank and Mercantile Safe-Deposit and Trust. In 1984, Larry started
his career as a Mathematician at the U.S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratory where he
worked on conventional and nuclear weapons testing and simulation.
Larry is also an e-Business and
Technology Consultant at Burgee & Associates
where he consults in the areas of website design,
development, and usability where he has created a Web presence for many clients. He also
develops and conducts training seminars on a variety of topics:
- Website Design, Development, &
Usability;
- Website Localization &
Internationalization;
- Technology-Enabled Classroom
Design; and
- Mobile and Wireless Technology.
Larry's other interests include
mountain biking, water sports,
running, foreign language study, and relaxing with his wife and
children on breaks at their home in
Jupiter, Florida.
