Class Exercise #6 - Fonts, Colors, and Graphics

Due: Thursday, August 19, 6:30 PM

Note: This assignment will be graded!


Start Windows Explorer.

Somewhere on your hard drive or on a diskette, create a folder entitled exer6. Place ALL of your htm files here

Under exer6, create a folder called images. Place all of your GIFs and JPGs here.


Start FrontPage Express.

Create a home page as follows.

Insert a centered 600 pixel wide table with no borders or padding. Place all elements inside.

Save your file as index.htm.

Title your page Class Exercise 6 - ???? where ???? is your name (Arial, bold, 18 pts).

On the next three lines, place the words Fonts, Colors, Graphics, one per line, respectively (Times New Roman, bold, 14 pts).

Save your page.

Create three new pages Fonts, Colors, and Graphics, respectively, and save them as fonts.htm, colors.htm, and graphics.htm.


On the Fonts page, place the title Class Exercise 6 - ???? - Fonts.

Select 10 different fonts, one per line, and display the following in that font:

???? - abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz - 0123456789

where ???? is the name of the font. Each line should be bold font, 14 points.

Save your page.


On the Colors page, place the title Class Exercise 6 - ???? - Colors.

Insert a 3 rows x 3 columns table, 600 pixels wide, no borders or padding.

Make each table cell 200 pixels wide, and place a different background color in each cell.

Place three lines of text in each cell (one character per line will do).

Save your page.


On the Colors page, place the title Class Exercise 6 - ???? - Graphics.

Use PowerPoint, Photo Editor, and Paint to create a composite graphic (600 pixels wide) consisting of at least the following:

  • Your name created with Word Art;
  • One Clip Art image;
  • One image "borrowed" from the Internet;
  • An image or color scheme used as the background for your image;
  • An "effect" applied by Photo Editor.

Save your graphic as graphic.jpg.

Save your page.


Return to index.htm and create hyperlinks to all of your subpages.


Start FTP Explorer.

Transfer your Web page files and images to your Loyola Web account. Don't forget to create a subdirectory under www entitled exer6 with a subdirectory named images. Disconnect and shutdown FTP Explorer as soon as your transfers complete (to avoid "hanging" the server).

Return to Internet Explorer and test your Web site.

Send an Email to Larry Burgee indicating  you have completed the assignment.  Include in the body of your Email, a hyperlink to your class exercise Web site.

Save your work (floppy, zip, Yahoo! Briefcase, Email to yourself, etc.).
