Biography:
In August, 2009, Dr. Larry Burgee started a
double-promotion as Department Chair and Associate Professor, Department
of Information Systems, School of Business and Leadership, Stevenson
University (Position
Announcement). He currently teaches IS 150 Relational Database
Design & SQL with MS Access. In May 2010, Dr. Burgee will lead the first
Stevenson University
International Marketing European Study Tour.
Dr. Burgee was
an Assistant Professor of e-Business and Technology Management at
Towson University from 2003 to 2009. He taught

Information Technology and consistently earned outstanding
teaching evaluations from students and faculty (peer reviews). He was
selected by the
The
President's Leadership Institute and completed the prestigious
Towson University Leadership Program during the 2006-2007 academic
year. He played a pivotal role in the development and
implementation of Towson University's first Mobile Technology Classroom.
Additionally, Dr. Burgee was a member of several University-level and
College-level technology-focused committees and task forces. In May
2006, he taught in the Executive MBA program at the University of Lodz
Polish-American Management Center
in Lodz, Poland. In January 2008 and January 2009, he taught Principles
of e-Business at
Quality
Leadership University, Towson's affiliate in Panama City, Panama.
Dr.
Burgee has been associated with
Loyola University Maryland since
1989. He was a Visiting Professor in 2003 and has been an Adjunct
Professor since 1997. He has taught
GB 704 Information and Technology for Management, GB 748 International
Marketing,
GB 756 Database Design and Implementation,
GB 757 Business Support Technologies, and GB 759 Lattanze Seminar Series in the MBA
Program, and BA 251 Management Information Systems, BA 382 International Business, and
BA 448 International Marketing in the
Undergraduate Program. He earned his M.B.A. at Loyola in 1993 and was
the International Business & Marketing Study
Tour Coordinator from 1993 to 1998. Dr. Burgee coordinated,
attended, and guided six consecutive annual European Study Tours. He
developed marketing strategies, established relationships with
high-level European executives, and arranged for group visits to more
than 75 companies in Belgium, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany,
Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland. From 1999 to 2002, he was the Executive
Director of
Lattanze Center @ Loyola
College, the Center for Executive Studies in Information Technology.
Dr. Burgee was also Loyola's American Experience Program Director. In
2001, he hosted a ten-day educational and cultural visit to Baltimore
for 20 Chilean business executives from the Loyola MBA program in
Santiago, Chile.
In 2005, Dr. Burgee earned a Ph.D. in
Information Systems at University of
Maryland, Baltimore County, with a dissertation topic entitled
The Effects of Screen Size, Information Organization, and Time on User
Comprehension of Text-Based Information Presented in a Web Browser.
He has also conducted considerable research examining human-computer
interaction issues from an international and cultural perspective as
they relate to the global e-Business environment. As a Part-time
Instructor at UMBC, he taught Software and Hardware Concepts
and Database Program Development.
From 1988 to 1998, Dr. Burgee was
employed by the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. From 1995 to 1998, he
was an Information Technology Analyst and was responsible for Oracle
Financials Technical Support. He performed extensive project management
work for the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP)
system and became very knowledgeable in supply-chain management
technology. He was also responsible for the Company's Business
Information System Intranet web site and authored more than 200 web
pages. From 1992 to 1995, Dr. Burgee was BGE's Disaster Recovery
Coordinator, responsible for the recovery activities of Information
Systems, Telecommunications, Customer Service, and Nuclear Support
Services. From 1988 to 1992, he was a Systems Programmer and maintained
large-scale mainframe operating systems (IBM-MVS).
From 1985 to 1988, Dr. Burgee was a VM
and MVS Systems Programmer for First National Bank of Maryland (Allfirst
Bank) and Mercantile Safe-Deposit and Trust. In 1984, he started his
career as a Mathematician at the U.S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratory
where he worked on conventional and nuclear weapons testing and
simulation.
Dr. Burgee
is also an e-Business and Technology Consultant at
Burgee & Associates
where he consults in the areas of website design, development, and
usability where he has created a Web presence for many clients. He also
develops and conducts training seminars on a
variety of topics:
- Website Design, Development, &
Usability;
- Website Localization &
Internationalization;
- Technology-Enabled Classroom
Design; and
- Mobile and Wireless Technology.
Dr. Burgee's
other interests include mountain biking, water sports, running,
travel abroad, foreign language study, and relaxing with his wife
and children on breaks at their home
in
Jupiter, Florida.
